UNDERSTANDING THE TECHNOLOGY

What is MBST®?

MBST® is a non-invasive magnetic resonance technology designed for use within musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

MBST® is designed to target tissue at a cellular level and support the body's natural repair processes. Research continues to investigate how this technology works and how these proposed mechanisms translate into outcomes for patients.

MBST® can be incorporated into broader rehabilitation programmes alongside physiotherapy, exercise and other appropriate interventions.

Rather than viewing MBST® as a standalone solution, our clinicians assess how it may fit into your overall care plan.

YOUR INDIVIDUAL CARE

A Personalised Approach to Rehabilitation

Everyone's condition, symptoms and goals are different.

Whether you're experiencing ongoing joint discomfort, managing a musculoskeletal injury or looking for support with your rehabilitation, our team will take time to understand your individual circumstances.

Our priority is to recommend an appropriate, personalised approach to your rehabilitation.

MBST rehabilitation consultation

Your initial assessment will consider:

  • Your symptoms, medical history and current challenges.
  • How your condition affects your mobility and daily activities.
  • Your personal goals, whether that's walking, exercising, working or enjoying everyday life.
  • Your existing rehabilitation programme and the options available to you.
  • Whether MBST® may be suitable within your wider care plan.
REHABILITATION SUPPORT

How Can MBST® Fit Into Your Rehabilitation?

MBST® is used within rehabilitation programmes for people experiencing a range of musculoskeletal and bone-related concerns.

It may be considered as part of a wider care pathway involving physiotherapy, movement, exercise and ongoing clinical guidance.

01

Supporting Everyday Movement

Rehabilitation is about more than managing symptoms. It's about maintaining mobility, confidence and independence.

MBST® may be incorporated into a rehabilitation programme focused on improving your ability to manage everyday activities.

02

Working Alongside Physiotherapy

MBST® does not replace exercise, physiotherapy or other appropriate medical treatment.

At Burton Physio Group, we use a clinician-led approach to consider how different interventions can complement your rehabilitation plan.

03

Focusing on Long-Term Goals

Our team works with you to establish meaningful goals and review your progress throughout your rehabilitation journey.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What Does an MBST® Session Involve?

MBST® sessions are non-invasive and do not involve injections, medication or surgery.

During a session, you will sit or lie comfortably while the MBST® device delivers a programmed magnetic resonance sequence.

The treatment is quiet and generally does not produce any noticeable sensation.

An MBST® programme involves a series of scheduled sessions. The recommended programme will depend on your individual assessment and the protocol considered appropriate for you.

Our clinical team will explain what to expect before you begin.

RESEARCH & EVIDENCE

What Does the Research Say?

Research continues to explore the use of MBST® within musculoskeletal rehabilitation and bone health.

Controlled clinical studies have reported improvements in pain and functional measures among people with back pain or osteoarthritis who received MBST® alongside standard rehabilitation.

These findings relate to the treatment combinations studied and do not establish that MBST® alone produces the reported improvements.

Other research has explored the relationship between magnetic resonance technology, cellular signalling and bone-related measures. Further controlled clinical research is needed to establish the clinical significance of these findings.

At Burton Physio Group, we believe in providing balanced information so you can make an informed decision about your care.
